London Day 6

It was a little cold and windy today with grey skies in the morning (typical London weather). We started off at the Millenium Pedestrian Bridge (Norman Foster) over the Thames and ending at the Tate Modern Museum. The Tate Modern was free!! We wandered around in there for a couple of hours. Unfortunatley, the Dali exhibit ended the day before. But we were still able to see art by many influential artists of the 20th century: Mondrian, Pollack, Picasso, Monet, Warhol, Ernst, etc, etc, etc... There were still alot of people there, even though it was a Monday. In the picture of the downtown skyline, you can notice the many cranes in the city. There is ALOT of construction going on here. Hmmm, maybe they need architects really bad... We then wandered down the Waterfront, past Shakespeare's Globe Theatre (reconstruction), and grabbed a sandwich from a sandwich shop. Then we trekked down to the Southwark Cathedral. This was a place of worship for over a thousand years. Some of the walls are this old, while others are as new as a hundred years old. Either way, it was a beautiful example of a Gothic cathedral; and it was free and they let me take pictures inside. bonus. After that, we went down to London City Hall (Norman Foster). We went inside, but we could only go up to the second floor. On the 9th floor is "London's Living Room", which I believe is a cool little hangout spot that looks out over the river towards downtown. Of course, it is closed on weekdays. We thought it would be closed on weekends because it is a Gov't office. Not a bonus. Our feet were KILLING us by then so we decided to go to the other H&M in Oxford Circus. Somehow we made it out of there with only spending $50. We were quite proud of ourselves. We wandered into a few other stores on the way and then got some Thai food to take back to the Hostel. The exchange rate sucks and makes everything twice as expensive as it should be. Can we fire George Bush over this? Please.
